More about this tour.

Most Cairns tours point you at the reef or the rainforest. This one takes you across Trinity Inlet to Mandingalbay Yidinji Country at East Trinity, a protected stretch of mangroves, wetland and rainforest sitting between the Wet Tropics and Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Areas, and hands the morning to the Indigenous Rangers and guides whose Country it is. Mandingalbay Authentic Indigenous Tours is 100 percent owned and operated by the Mandingalbay Yidinji Aboriginal Corporation.Meet your guides at 8:45am at Mooz Gelato and Juice Bar on Marina Point, then walk down to the vessel at the Cairns Marlin Marina. The cruise up Hills Creek is lined with mangroves, and at low tide, saltwater crocodiles are sometimes spotted on the banks. On arrival you're welcomed to Country, then a short bus ride takes you through regenerated mangroves and wetland to a working Indigenous Ranger base. From there you walk the Mayi Bugan Rainforest Trail with your guides, learning which plants are food, which are medicine, and the customs and artefacts tied to them. A 3D map of Mandingalbay Country pulls it all together, showing how the land connects to the sea.Morning tea is fresh fruit and a baked item, with no meat served, before the vessel brings you back to the marina by midday. That leaves the afternoon free, so if this sparks something, our guide to Aboriginal experiences in Australia is a good next read, and the Daintree Dreaming Aboriginal cultural adventure takes the story further north. Explore your options, then check availability on the Hands On Country Eco Tour from Cairns for your date.
