Cradle Mountain is roughly two and a half hours from Launceston, and this Gray Line day tour fills the drive with good reasons to look out the window. You head south west through farmland and the old towns of Carrick, Hagley, Westbury and Deloraine, then stop in Sheffield to see the murals that earned it the name Town of Murals. Inside the national park, your day starts at the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre before the Enchanted Forest Walk through pencil pines and mossy bush to a small waterfall. Weather permitting, you'll walk the Dove Lake circuit beneath Cradle Mountain itself and visit Waldheim Chalet, the replica of Gustav Weindorfer's mountain home. Keep an eye out for wombats, echidnas and wallabies along the way. Your national park entry and a light lunch are included, and the day finishes with a stop at Sheffield Honey Farm on the way home. Staying near the park? The Cradle Mountain night spotting tour shows you the park after dark, and our seven day Tasmania itinerary shows how a Cradle day fits a bigger trip. Back in Launceston by 5:30pm. Check availability for your dates.
