Commonly asked questions.

None at all. You start on a beginner friendly 5 metre cliff where your guide teaches the technique, then build up to 15 metre cliffs and finish on a 30 metre overhanging abseil.

Trips start at 8:30am from the High and Wild office inside the Blue Mountains YHA, 207 Katoomba Street, Katoomba. Arrive a little early, as the group heads out on time and late arrivals who miss the trip cannot be refunded or rescheduled.

Yes. The train from Sydney Central to Katoomba takes about two hours, and the office is a five minute walk from Katoomba Station, so check the early morning timetable before you travel. If you drive, there is free all day parking next to the building.

Abseiling still runs in light rain, and the final call is made on the morning of the trip. If High and Wild cancels for bad weather or bushfire, you can choose a full refund or a free reschedule. Our guide to the best time to visit the Blue Mountains explains what each season brings.

Cancelling or changing your date with less than 48 hours notice incurs the full fee, and for groups of 3 or more or private bookings that window is 14 days. Cancelling earlier incurs a $45 per person admin fee, and there are no refunds once the trip has started.

The minimum age for group abseiling is 10, and anyone under 18 needs a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. For younger children, contact High and Wild to talk through options.

Average fitness is plenty for this trip. If you are pregnant or have an injury or medical condition, talk to the High and Wild team before you book so they can advise whether it suits you.

Wear clothes to suit the weather and running or hiking shoes, and bring a litre of water and a camera. All technical gear is supplied, but lunch is not included on the half day, so pack a snack.

Plenty. Echo Point and the Three Sisters are close to Katoomba, and our Blue Mountains Wildlife and Scenic World tour pairs Scenic World's railway and cableway with a wildlife park visit on another day.
