Most Bruny Island day trips show you the lighthouse from the car park. This one takes you inside. Bruny Island Safaris runs guided tours of Cape Bruny Lighthouse, Australia's southernmost lighthouse open to the public, and you climb all the way up to the balcony for the view over the Southern Ocean. Pick up is from 7am in Hobart, with the ferry fares and park entry sorted for you. The first stop is a beach morning tea of Bruny Island oysters, local cheese, fresh bread, tea and coffee. Then it is up the stairs of Truganini Lookout at The Neck for the view along the island's narrow isthmus, before heading through Adventure Bay and into South Bruny National Park for the lighthouse tour. After that comes the sweet part: tastings of chocolate, fudge and honey from Bruny Island makers. Lunch is at Hotel Bruny, made with Tasmanian and Bruny Island produce, and the afternoon winds through Two Tree Point and Resolution Creek, with an optional rainforest drive and a search for the island's white wallabies. You are back in Hobart around 5pm to 5:30pm. Want more of the island's produce? Our guide to eating your way around Bruny Island fills in the gaps. Explore the day, then check availability.
