Families can book, but cider and spirit tastings are only for guests aged 18 and over. Talk to the team when booking about what suits younger travellers.

The valley is worth a visit in every season, and conditions on the mountain change quickly. Our guide to when to visit Tasmania covers what each season brings.

Bring comfortable shoes, a warm layer and a rain jacket for the mountain, plus a water bottle and camera. There's only room for a small day bag on board.

The Huon Valley is where Tasmania's apple industry grew up, and this private food and cider day from Hobart lets you taste what it's become. Your guide collects you from your hotel at 8am and heads first for the summit of kunanyi/Mount Wellington, weather permitting, for views over Hobart and the River Derwent before you drop down through the forest into the valley. The day is built around producers rather than tourist stops. You'll try an organic cider tasting paddle and apple pie at Willie Smith's Apple Shed, honey at The Honey Pot, and sheep's milk cheese alongside gin and vodka distilled from whey at Grandvewe Cheese and Hartshorn Distillery. There's free time in Cygnet to wander its cafés and shops, then a locally prepared lunch with cider tastings among the orchards at Pagan Cider. The drive home follows the D'Entrecasteaux Channel with a riverside stop in Huonville, and you're back in Hobart around 4pm. Love a food day out? The Bruny Island food and lighthouse day tour is just across the channel, and our guide to things to do in Hobart fills in the rest of your stay. All tastings, food and entry fees are included.
